Elizabeth’s Story - No More Panic Attacks

I struggled with debilitating panic attacks for about a year. Every day there would be a slow build-up of anxiety throughout the day, sort of like going up on a really slow roller coaster (one that was sure to come crashing down later in the day). When the panic hit its peak for the day, I would feel like I was going to die. Much of my days were spent feeling detached from my body. I was irritable and very sensitive to noise and lights. I decided it was time to get help from my cousin, Katie, who is a nutrition counselor at Nutritional Weight & Wellness.

I was on prescription medications that took the edge off a little, but had many unpleasant side effects. I was unbelievably sweaty from them, and if I wasn’t consistent with taking them I would feel electrical zaps in my head. Katie had been encouraging me to look at my food choices to feel better. I would see her at family events, and she always had good advice, but it wasn’t until I sat down with Katie in a nutrition counseling appointment that I was able to make some real changes to my health.

Katie taught me the importance of gut health and how the gut is the “second brain” and related to my panic attacks. She put together a meal plan to help heal my gut. Without her help, I know I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I’m happy to say that I feel more connected to my body than ever before. I am present and no longer experiencing that detached feeling. I have only had one panic attack since I’ve been eating this way, and it was nothing like the panic attacks I used to experience. It came and went rather than lingering all day. A nice surprise with my new eating plan was that the bloating and cramping I felt in my stomach on a daily basis disappeared, and my digestive health overall is so much better! My skin cleared up, and my hair and nails are growing again. Another bonus: my mind is so clear I’m able to concentrate better in my high-stress job.

One major improvement to my health, that I never thought would improve, has been with neurological conditions I was born with. At the age of 10, I was diagnosed with two neurological conditions that required surgery to correct, but even after surgery patients typically deal with headaches, dizziness, fatigue and pain for the rest of their lives. Before coming to NWW, I was just like every other patient dealing with those issues. I recently had my routine CT scan and a follow up with my neurosurgeon, and he was blown away at how well I was doing! Compared to other patients, I have little to no issues. All of my pain is gone and my headaches have reduced significantly.

I am so thankful that I changed my nutrition. I never thought I’d be able to see so many benefits, but I have, and it’s been great. I’m able to go more places with confidence. I felt like a prisoner of my anxiety and health conditions before, but now I’m free!
