Back to school season is upon us! Whether you dread it or enjoy it, one thing is for certain; life just got busy. With the new routine comes new menu planning challenges, and by challenges we mean a struggle to get everyone eating something before rushing out the door. Let alone the whirlwind of ravenous kiddos for the after school snack. With that in mind we created two fresh recipes, one for breakfast to get you out the door and one to welcome you back home after school. Both recipes feature our bestselling protein powder that comes in chocolate, vanilla, natural and packet size.

Before School Pumpkin Spice Smoothiewhey-protein_vanilla.JPG

  • ½ cup pumpkin purée
  • ½ tsp of pumpkin spice OR blend of any or all (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger)
  • ¼ tsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 ½ scoops Vanilla Wellness Whey Protein Powder
  • ¼ c. canned coconut milk
  • ½ cup ice
  • Blend and add water and/or ice as needed for preferred texture

So what do these recipes have over a quick piece of toast, peanut butter and glass of orange juice? That would be faster, right? With breakfasts like the one described above you're essentially plugging your kiddos full of sugar; bread turns into sugar in your body, orange juice already is sugar and some peanut butters have added sugars. We know that sugar amps kids up, then knocks them down ... right around the time they're supposed to be getting their "thinking caps" on.

At Nutritional Weight & Wellness, we always suggest eating in balance, a mix of animal protein, quality fat and a good carb. Balanced eating keeps your blood sugar stable, which directly impacts you mood and brain, both are important as kids head back to school.

A Bit More About Our Protein

Our Wellness Whey protein is derived from dairy and easy for most people to digest. It mixes nicely and tastes great. Whey protein also contains a complete amino acid profile, which is important for maintaining lean body mass, burning fat and supporting good moods. Our Wellness Whey Protein Powders are sweetened with stevia and a small amount of crystalline fructose, from fruit, which enhances the flavor. There are no harmful fats or unhealthy ingredients. The powders also contain L-carnitine, L-glutamine and chromium, which can help increase energy and metabolism.

So regardless if you're making our fresh recipes or have a family favorite smoothie of your own, it's time to get your blender going.
