My wife thought it would be a good idea for us to take the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss Program together to learn how to eat better. I’ll be honest; I didn’t want to do it, but looking back I’m glad I did because I learned a new way of eating that changed my health for the better.
Growing up, I had to eat many macaroni and butter dinners because I had a lot of brothers and sisters and we didn’t have much money. When I became an adult, I ate what I wanted because I couldn’t have it as a kid. I enjoyed large steak and potato dinners. As I got older, I ended up having three major back surgeries and was taking several pills a day for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and more. Going into the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss Program, I was at my highest weight of 233 pounds.
At the first class with Oralee as my teacher, I really challenged the information that she was presenting. It was hard for me to believe that whole grains would have caused me to become fat. I remember raising my hand and asking my teacher how this could be true. Somehow it came up that I am a farmer and have raised animals. Oralee asked me, “What do you feed cows and pigs on a farm to fatten them up?” My first thought was corn and grains. It was that moment that I first started to understand how the cereal and bread, that were staples in my diet, could be making me fat.
Oralee taught me so much in the weekly classes, and Marcie reinforced it all and helped me with a meal plan in my nutrition consultation. Not only did I learn life-changing information each week, I always felt welcome in class. I got straight-to-the-point answers that made sense, and it became easy for me to adopt the new eating habits.
I started to see great results with my weight. My belly got smaller and smaller each week, and I now weigh 198 pounds. That’s 35 pounds* of my big belly gone! My XXL-tall shirts had to be switched out for larges. My tight size-42 pants had to be replaced with 40s and I’m already needing a smaller size; they’re way too big! I hope to lose even more weight as I continue to eat real food, the way we’re meant to eat.
I went from taking 9 different pills a day to zero! My cholesterol is normal, my blood pressure is normal, my blood sugar readings are normal…all my numbers are back on track. My digestion has improved, and now that I’m no longer waking up during the night, I have more energy and am ready to go in the morning; I feel good!
The Nutrition 4 Weight Loss Program is not a diet class, it’s simply an eating class. I didn’t believe it would work at first, but my teacher convinced me, and trust me, I’m very hard to convince! I’m proof that this way of eating really works. The best part is, I can still eat a steak and potatoes!
