Elaine's Story — 27 Pounds Lost*, Reduced Hot Flashes

I was on my way to a weight loss center that I had used in the past, listening to Dishing Up Nutrition on the radio. Dar was talking about the foods that cause inflammation and something clicked with me. Here I am about to use a diet program that failed me the first time; a program that never actually taught me how to eat right, just gave me the food to eat. Instead of signing up for a program that I didn’t think would work, I went home and looked up the Nutritional Weight & Wellness website. I started listening to the podcasts and changing my eating.

I Wanted to Lose Weight and Reduce Hot Flashes

I decided to take it a step further and sign up for the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss Program. I wanted to lose weight, but I was also dealing with annoying hot flashes that would strike 6-7 times per day. To my pleasant surprise, the program helped me with these two issues and so much more!

So far, I’ve lost 27 pounds* and several inches. I feel so much better in my clothes. My hot flashes happen now only once or twice per day, which is an amazing improvement! On top of that I’m no longer considered pre-diabetic, my cravings are gone, I don’t feel bloated and gassy, and I have much more energy. I used to struggle to get out of bed in the morning due to arthritis pain in my feet, and even that has improved. I bounce out of bed each morning!

Understanding How to Eat Real Food

It used to be common for me to come home from work, reach for a box of Cheese-Its and eat them unconsciously, but that’s no longer the case. I’m mindful of what I eat and understand how to eat real foods to feel great. In the classes and in my consultation with JoAnn, I learned that eating processed foods leads to high blood sugar which contributes to hot flashes; and low blood sugar contributes to them as well. I had never made this connection before. I also learned that heart disease is mostly preventable. Heart disease has been a fear of mine because it seems to run in my family. Now, I’m not worried about it because I’ve learned how to prevent it. The information I’ve learned has been such a life-changer for me. I have more control of my life now that I know what food will do to my body.

The Nutrition 4 Weight Loss Program has been wonderful. My teacher Oralee taught me great tips on preparing and storing food and always had great snack ideas to try. I didn’t have to struggle losing weight like I’ve have in the past. I’m excited to be retaking the program for support as I continue to lose weight. I’ve finally found the right way to eat!
